Frequently Asked Questions About Moving
How much? When? Can I? How long? There are a lot of questions when it comes to moving. M&E Transportation will assist you by providing the answers and assist you in planning your impending move. Read further to view answers to the most common questions families have when it comes time to move.
When is the best time to move?
If there is a choice, most moving companies suggest you select a time other than the end of the month. The heaviest demands are placed on trucks, equipment and personnel during the month end especially June through mid-September when children are out of school, and corporations and the military are relocating personnel. M&E Transportation understands that there are many factors which will influence your choice of when you move. We will help you design a move that will accommodate your busy schedule.
How long does it take to move?
That depends on many factors, including the time of year, weather conditions, time required to load and unload, and the direction and distance your shipment is traveling. Because the furnishings of the average household will not fill a modern moving truck, it is often necessary for two or more shipments to be loaded on the same truck (Interstate moves only). Each shipment is carefully sectioned off from the others.
If you are moving locally you can plan on a least one full day for moving from your current home to your new home. If you live in a home above 2500 square feet there is a chance that your local move may take additional days to properly perform your relocation.
When should I call a moving company?
The earlier the better. It is wise to give M&E Transportation from two to four weeks advance notice, if possible. The more lead time you can give, the more likely we will be able to meet your preferred dates.
If you are moving between states (interstate) we would recommend four to six weeks notice to allow for truck assignments.
The other reason to contact a moving company early in the process is to not only establish a budget for your move, but to learn valuable tips on how to make your move less stressful and more economical. Is a moving company "Licensed"?
In the state of Washington all movers need to be licensed to transport household goods. M&E Transportation's license number is #HG57070. If you decide to use an unlicensed mover you will have no recourse should an inevitable event occur. Also by using a licensed mover, you will have the peace of mind of knowing that the company carries appropriate insurance for its equipment and personnel and adheres to strict state regulations governing household good moves.
If you are moving interstate it is more appropriate for a moving company to be "certificated". This means the company has been issued a certificate and has the authority to move household goods. M&E Transportation is an agent for Stevens Vanlines whose certificate entitles them to move household goods between any of the 50 states.
Do I need an estimate?
Upon request, an M&E Transportation moving consultant will make a pre-move survey of your household goods to be transported. In this way you will be able to budget your move cost. How and when should I pay the moving company?
It is required that all charges be paid in cash, credit card, money order, cashier's check or traveler's check before your shipment is unloaded at your destination. Local moves can be paid upon completion of the job. Am I protected against loss or damage?
Under the terms of the Uniform Household Goods Bill of Lading (the receipt for your goods and part of the transportation documentation given to you by the moving company), you may choose from several different types of transit coverage. Contact your moving company for specific details regarding transit related coverage.
